Testing & Safety Manager - CPG/Food Products

Advantage Solutions and our Retailtainment team have an excited opportunity for a Product Testing & Safety Manager in the Bentonville, AR area. This role is responsible for overseeing and managing the process in which products and recipes are tested to provide optimal event execution for Suppliers and the Client. Such a fun and exciting role in innovation, testing a multitude of food products and ensure they are safe for consumers on a global basis.

This position manages quality assurance, food safety and sanitation programs for Client Events. The incumbent provides oversight of the Food Safety Certification program, as well as, formal responses and directives from Food Safety audit results. This role will have frequent interaction with the Client Quality Assurance Department, Suppliers, Field Division Managers, Sr. Director of Operations Support and Shopper Events Senior Leadership—including those heading up the vertical business units, as they collaborate on product testing & development and food safety standards.

Product Testing:

  1. Help develop product test strategies and basic requirement metrics in order to measure product effectiveness and scalability. They will gather data (defect counts, test pass rates, etc.) to present to suppliers and vertical business leaders product and recipe viability.

  2. Develop standards and drive consistency across the organization on demo set-up and how product preparation instructions are written in event manuals.

  3. Ensure direction for preparing product samples and the final result of sample preparation are in alignment with client’s expectations.

  4. Oversee Product Test Specialists ensuring all items to be demoed are tested and pass approved standards before events are executed in the field.

  5. Perform Quality Check audits in the field periodically to ensure event manual instruction is easily understandable and executable at the Event Specialist level.

Food Safety:

  1. Be the organizational ambassador of Food Safety compliance—making sure every member of the organization is properly trained for food handling. Ensure adherence to all Food Safety standards when handling food.

  2. Be the primary liaison with Client’s Quality Assurance/Food Safety Department.

  3. Work with Learning Management System software to track training compliance.

  4. Be aware of audits conducted internally, by our Client and Local/State Health Inspectors. Provide field reporting, monitor results and support with communications and training to address opportunity areas.

  5. Work with Third Party Supplier on Food Safety Program Contents and Certification Process Improvements (as needed) and manage the corporate contract for Food Handler’s licenses (issued & renewed).

Position Summary

Minimum Qualifications

Education Level: (Required): Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience

Field of Study/Area of Experience:

3-5 years of experience in Food Safety, Quality Assurance, Marketing Research, Product Development or in Relevant Industry

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Must be well versed in Client Food Safety Practices, the Corporate Food Safety Certification Program and Food Safety Regulations by StateAbility to hire, train, lead and develop people. Demonstrates the ability to motivate for results & evaluate performance.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook).

  • Excellent written and verbal skills with the ability to communicate professionally to all levels internally, to Client Field Management, to Client Corporate QA and to Suppliers as required.

  • Strong time and project management skills. Demonstrates ability to adapt to shifting priorities and align activities to meet organizational goals.

  • Adapts and maintains a customer-focus mindset that acknowledges the importance and value of all customers they support and acts accordingly.

Environmental & Physical Requirements

Field / Administrative Requirements

Incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job. Work may be performed in an office, field, retail store, or warehouse environment. Typically requires the ability to spend 66%+ hours each work day doing the following activities: engage in considerable physical activity, ability to lift and/or push up to 50 pounds, stand on feet for long periods of time, use products or cook food as appropriate for the demonstration, and may be required to work in extremely cold conditions (i.e. refrigerated and freezer sections). Also required to travel and drive. The use of proper safety practices when handling the products and/or cooking is essential.
